Startech announced yesterday that their existing products, including the 1 and 2 bay hard drive docks, the 2.5″ and 3.5″ hard drive caddies and their USB to Sata adapter, are all being updated with USB 3.1. To make it clear, USB 3.1 doesn’t mean type C, type C and be either 3 or 3.1, but 3.1 does allow for up to 10Gb/s, as opposed to 3.0 which only allows for 5Gb/s. Personally, I would really like to see their 3.5″ caddy with Type C, as it would mean you wouldn’t need that extra AC power adapter – something that I feel could really disappear quickly and happily.
