AMD’s New Fury X Card

AMD recently released their Fury X and it seems like its going to put up a good fight against Nvidia’s 980 Ti.

Fury X

AMD has a strong card on their hands with this one and GPU boasts some new technology that Nvidia does’t even have. In this card AMD have added something thats known as High Bandwidth Memory (HBM for short), if you want more information check out this article. In summary this card’s memory is more power efficient and transfers more data per second than anything else on the market today. This card features AMD’s new “Fiji” architecture, this thing allows the HBM to actually benefit you, the user. Fiji claims a 60% increase in memory bandwidth than the R9 290x. All this card is a step in the right direction for AMD, and this is a step that they need dearly.

The Fury X is designed to be a direct competitor for the Nvidia 980TI and below you can see a table comparing the specifications of the MSI Fury X, Titan X and the 980 Ti

On paper the Fury X is at a loss because it has less memory compared to the 980 Ti and its frequency is 7x less than the Nvidia cards but HBM should be able to compensate for most of that. But HBM will compensate for that as the bus width of the Fury X is more than 10x larger than Nvidia cards and this compensates for lower clock speed.  Real world performance is not dictated solely on specs on paper there are many more factors that just that. We are hoping to give you real world benchmarks soon as soon as we get our hands on it.

This card just looks great. From the water cooler to the full metal construct, it would make your build look just a tad better than all your friends.  The guys at Forbes detailed had their hands on the Fury X and this is what they said about the water cooler

The Fury X boasts braided tubing, a copper ASIC coldplate with integrated pump module, a custom radiator with expansion tank

From what we know right now the Fury X with a water cooler is a reference design and vendors will not be able to produce their own custom cooler’s or overclock the card. There is light at the end of the tunnel because AMD are going to release a air cooled variant where manufacturers like MSI will be able to overclock this card to their hearts content.

So what are your guy’s thoughts on this card, would you buy this or the 980 Ti?
