Gigabyte X99 SOC Champion Overview.00_00_40_18.Still003This is mostly a repeat of what’s in the video, so if you would rather watch that, please do! Normally I don’t talk about the box, but in this case, we aren’t doing a full review so here goes nothing! As usual, the box is nicely presented, and the back is covered with all the features you could ask for. Just to make it clear, the reason we can’t do a proper review of this is because we aren’t pro overclockers – and we don’t have LN2 or Liquid Helium lying around. Hence the overview and glamour piece.

Let’s start of with what makes this board a ‘Super OverClocking’ Board – it’s missing a few things (and that’s ok). Gigabyte took the right approach with this board, and ripped most of the non-overclocking features off this, and added a few nice touches. From left to right, you’ll get a mostly barren I/O, with PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports for driverless usage, a PCI power connector to supply extra power to the PCIe slots if you are overclocking graphics cards (up to 4), loads of voltage check points for things like Vcore, RAM dimms and VGA cards, as well as hardware switches for the dual bios setup, overclocking modes and clear CMOS, reset and power switches.

You do also get some normalities, including an M.2 port, the usual SATA ports as well as a SATA Express port, and a thunderbolt header, should you choose to put the add-in card in. You’ll also get Gigabyte’s AMP-UP audio, with split PCB (that is lit up orange with a cool SOC logo in the middle).

One of the cool things about the board is it’s power phase design, and the way it cools them. The board requires an 8 pin and a 4 pin CPU power connector to be plugged in, but remember you are probably going to be drawing a lot of power… The heatsinks surrounding the CPU socket are all connected via a heatpipe, all the way to the chipset heatsink, which looks awesome! Something to add on about the overclocking features, is that this board is thicker, with extra fiberglass protection to keep stray LN2 away from the copper inside, and happens to feel reinforced and certainly heavier than a standard X99 board.

The really cool thing about this board, is that Gigabyte and Corsair worked together to create this beautiful RAM, which matches perfectly with the board’s orange accents. This RAM is ludicrously expensive, with a list price on Amazon of over £700 for a 16GB kit… But damn does it look good! We are going to do a full review on this, since this is a TechteamGB exclusive – we are the only, if not one of a very very select few, that have this RAM and taken any sort of pictures/video to show to our audience! So cool! Leave a comment below if you want to see more exclusives, here on TechteamGB!

So that’s pretty much it, as we aren’t going into too much detail here. I’ll leave you with my favourite picture of the board it took.
