Logitech are known for making some killer gaming mice, like their G502 and it’s new LIGHTSPEED counterpart, they are also known for making some rather pricey models, for what you get anyway. Honestly, I think both of those are true for this, the G604 Lightspeed.

So let’s get it out of the way first, it’s currently £85 on Amazon, making it a pretty expensive option, and for that you don’t even get a rechargeable battery, it’s powered by a single AA battery which while they do include a Duracell brand one in the box, doesn’t have any way to charge it in the mouse – no front USB port or anything. It’s quoted to last 240 hours of usage per battery, or about 6 months depending on how often you are using it. Not bad, but still, not rechargeable.

Being a AA battery powered mouse, it’s not exactly the lightest, it’s 135G with a battery making it a little on the heavy side. It’s not something I personally have too much of a problem with since I use a Razer NAGA trinity personally, and since it’s not geared exclusively for FPS gaming I can’t complain too much.

The sensor is really where your money goes. It’s Logitech’s HERO 16K sensor and just like the other HERO sensored mice I’ve used, it’s great. It tracks incredibly well, no acceleration, smooth and responsive too. Gaming on this is great as you’d imagine, the smooth tracking lends itself to FPS games for me, but the six side buttons mean you can use it more as a MOBA mouse, if you’d prefer, it’s quite flexible.

What’s also flexible is the scroll wheel, a Logitech feature I can’t live without any more which is their switchable mode wheel, meaning it can either be ratcheting like usual, or with a push of the button just behind it, it can spin freely for ages. This is great when you want to scroll through a long document or web page, or in my case through my premiere timeline. Love it.

Just behind the switching button is actually the wireless change button since not only does this connect with Logitech’s Lightspeed connection, but can also pair with a bluetooth device too. While this isn’t meant for gaming, if you swap your mouse between a work PC and a gaming one, this can be very handy. Really, it just adds to the versatility of this thing.

So, for £85 would I buy one? Well, it doesn’t have PowerPlay, unlike the even more expensive G502 Lightspeed, and while I do like lots of buttons on the side of a mouse, the lack of specialisation makes me prefer other options to this personally. With that said, I use 2 mice on my main PC, a Logitech MX Master 3 for general use and editing, and a Razer NAGA trinity for gaming, so if you’d rather not do that, and have one mouse really well suited to both, this could definitely be it.
