MSI 24GE 2QE All-In-On Review
|This is possible the best product in it’s category, the 24GE 2QE from MSI is a hard-to-find All-in-one desktop, with a good amount of power for its size – and a beautiful screen! In this review we will cover the physical overview, the performance, the added features and finally my thoughts on the AIO.
Lets start with the front. Front and center you will find a beautiful 1080p 60Hz IPS panel. It’s pretty nice, with a 178 degree viewing angle. I’ll talk about this in a bit more detail later in this review. You’ll also find a 1080p webcam that is pretty cool, and a stereo microphone setup, which is pretty cool too. Down at the bottom, you’ll find two MSI logos, and two rather tinny 5W speakers, that really aren’t the best – but I guess since they produce audio… They work? Watch the review at the top of the page for an audio test of these.
On the left hand side, you’ll find all the ‘front panel’ type I/O, including a power button, Screen mode LED, HDD indicator, screen mode swticher button, on screen menu button (just like a normal monitor) and up and down buttons for navigation. You’ll also get an SD card reader, fast charger USB 3 port and a standard USB3 port. You are probably wondering what the screen mode is I’m talking about, and it is possibly the best feature of this all in one. This, as you can see below, had an HDMI In port, allowing you to use things such as an Xbox or PS4 on the screen, so you don’t need another screen or TV to play on – great if you are really tight on space (incidentally the main reason you would buy one of these). Unfortunately, for me the killer feature of this would be since the PC remains on when you switch over, I would love to be able to record the gameplay from the HDMI in direct to the AIO, instead of needing an external device. Sadly, this isn’t and option.
You’ll also find a DVD writer on the right hand side. Not much to say here…
On the back you’ll find what I consider a pretty cool stand. You have a good amount of tilt available, and it is screwed on with very easy access screws into the 100mm by 100mm VESA mount, that you can use to mount to a wall or monitor mount if you want. You will also find 3 vents on the back, all of which are relatively large, and give out a rather large amount of heat and noise. Also, on the topic of the stand, the base does have a rotating plate, which doesn’t do too much, since the four rubber pads on the sides are pretty grippy.
The rear I/O consists of the DC power in from the large power pack, the all important HDMI In port, 2 USB3 ports, HDMI out, a USB2 port, Killer E2200 NIC, and finally headphone and microphone jacks.
