Gunnar Optiks Intercept Onyx Review
|Having eye-strain issues? Gunnar has your back with these stylish gaming glasses!
This one is difficult to both review, and to do a written review on, since there isn’t much to show, and besides my experience with them, there isn’t much to say! Let’s start off with the physical overview though: the Onyx (Black) glasses take a very stylish – almost hipster – look, with the yellow tinted lenses being the only thing stopping me from using them in public regularly. They are built from what I assume is solid plastic, but feel very premium, with the subtle yet stylish Gunnar logo on the side. The hinges feel sturdy, and I expect these to last quite a long time as long as you don’t try and break them. You’ll also get a nice white bag to put them in, and likely have to use to clean them with – as I found they got quite dirty, quite quickly!

So, onto my experiences, these were interesting. They are possibly the most subjective product on the market, and your experience may vary from mine – so keep that in mind. I used these on and off for two weeks, during the first week – likely due to the small amount of zoom the lenses seem to have – I got headaches while using my PC, a problem I don’t normally have. During the second week – presumably after getting used to the lenses – I found I was able to look at the screens longer, game for longer and work/edit for longer.
The glasses themselves were comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and personally I think looked quite stylish. Obviously this is down to people’s taste, but remember there are other styles Gunnar makes, including two new Razer edition glasses, which look really cool.
Really, my conclusion for these is that if you have eye-strain issues, and don’t use F.Lux already, give these a shot. They may let you sit a bit further away from your desk, reduce eye strain, increase productivity and let you enjoy long gaming sessions more – but they might not, and that’s the risk you’ll have to weigh up when buying these. If you do, let me know in the comments down below, and let me know what you think of them, would you buy these or are they not for you?
