Ultimate CHEAP CPU Cooler
|For just £35, this dual fan air cooler is quite frankly amazing. It’s a new cooler from Arctic called the Freezer 34 eSports Duo. Now that’s a bit of a mouthful, so let me break that down. The Freezer 34 is the new cooler design, with 4 direct copper heatpipes and impressive airflow and heat transfer, the eSports is mostly a styling change so it’s all black – and gorgeous – and the duo means it comes with 2 fans.
Styling wise as I mentioned it’s rather good looking, and comes in either red, white, yellow or green, although I do like the look of the red one they sent over.
Mounting wise it fits AM4 for Ryzen, as well as the smaller Intel sockets for even up to an i9 9900K – should you so desire. It does technically fit the larger X299 Intel CPUs but the contact patch on the bottom is actually pretty small, so I wouldn’t wholly recommend this for that type of application.
Mounting it is one of the easiest air coolers around, with some screws that go into a backplate – for intel it’s the one in the box and for AMD it’s the one that came with your motherboard – then two arms that screw onto the cooler, and 4 nuts to hold it onto the board. Super easy, so great job Arctic.
Testing wise, I threw it on a Ryzen 7 1700X which was running at stock. This isn’t the hardest of stress tests for sure, but it gives you a good idea of how well it performs. Under full prime95 load, pulling about 105W of power, the maximum the CPU hit was just 51°c. That is with the side panel off and the GPU not under load, but even in gaming load with a hot GPU, I wouldn’t expect to see that go about 60°c which is brilliant, and means you’ve got a good amount of overclocking headroom.
The other thing that blew me away here was how quickly it dropped in temps as soon as the stress test stopped. Within seconds it was back to below 40°c and only a few degrees above it’s baseline 31°c idle temp. Really impressive.
And finally, we have to hear how loud – or should I say quiet – this is under load.
This really is an impressive cooler. It’s fan mounting method is a bit naff, but certainly not a problem, and overall I really don’t have much bad to say about it. The usual question here is, “would I put this in my rig?” and the answer his 100% yes. For just £35 it’s not much more than the industry standard Cooler Master Hyper 212, but performs extremely well and stays pretty quiet too. I am genuinely impressed.
