Hi guys and welcome to TechteamGB. This video is here to make clear how I deal with sponsorships, advertising and reviews, and if you’ve been linked to this video, it’s likely because you’ve made a baseless allegation and the wonderful community would like to show you why you are wrong.

I want to cover two things here, first, how I deal with sponsors, and second my code of conduct when it comes to all things advertising. Lets start with sponsors.

Currently, I don’t do in-video ads, so I’ll jump straight to full sponsored videos. When I have a sponsored video, I make that very, very clear. I use the Youtube “Includes paid promotion” option, I say it at least twice in the video and I put it in the description twice. You will know if a video is sponsored. If and when I start doing in video ads, I’ll also make it clear that it’s an advert you are seeing.

When it comes to my code of conduct, this is essentially a list of things I will not do – and if for some reason you actually see me do anything here, please mention it to me. With that said, here we go:

I will not take money for a review. Full stop. I’ll do showcases, overviews and unbias comparisons – I’ll come onto what that means in a sec – but I will not take money for reviews – videos specifically designed to help inform your buying decision with awards, and opinions of the product.

Comparisons are a style that work well for sponsorship, when done right. I won’t take money from someone who’d have a vested interest in who the winner of the comparison is, so an example there is if I’m comparing an Intel i7 with an AMD Ryzen 7, I wouldn’t take money from either Intel or AMD to make that happen – but I would (and have) taken money from Asus because they make motherboards for both platforms, so don’t care who wins.

I won’t promote products or services I know to be bad, now to make it clear, there is a good chance that at some point I’ll promote a product or service that turns out to be bad, but I’ll do as much due diligence as I can before promoting anything, and if it’s found to be bad, I’ll do my best to reduce or remove that promotion.

I will also continue to make clear where a product came from, especially for reviews. Most products do come from the manufacturer – so AMD sends me CPUs, Asus sends me motherboards, etc. I include this because while I do my best to make sure it has no bearing on a review, I think it’s fair for you to know that there might be a bias there. With that said, I’m not afraid to speak my mind about products and highlight flaws where I find them.

And finally, on the topic of bias and incentives, I do my best to minimise bias when actually covering products for review. Mostly though, the bias that commenters like to highlight is affiliate links. Most of the product links, especially to Amazon, are affiliate links. Yes, this is an incentive – but it’s not that clear cut. I would still get a commission if you click on my link, then buy a competitor product, meaning I don’t really care if you buy the thing I’m reviewing or not. There are also plenty of other incentives other than affiliate links that help keep my content fair and objective, so keep that in mind too.
