Corsair HS35 CHEAP Gaming Headset Review
|Are you in need of a new gaming headset, but can’t afford anything fancy? Well now corsair has your back, with their new HS35 headset! Its styled to match their more premium HS70 headset although to hit the just £35 price tag, they’ve had to make some cost-saving measures.
The main cost saving measure is the build quality, it’s made from cheap feeling plastics, and isn’t overly well reinforced, so stretches, creaks and doesn’t exactly feel premium in the hands. Happily though, they decided to not skimp on the padding for the ear cups, nor headband, meaning despite its generally low build quality, it’s actually pretty comfortable to wear.
They also didn’t cheap out on the sound quality – it’s certainly not amazing, and it’s insanely bass heavy, like really, really bass heavy, but it’s usable, and fits in the “good enough” category. Music listening is fine, strangely the lower volume settings on the headset itself – since the volume rocker is independent from the device you are playing the audio from – seem to be a lot lower quality, more muffled sound, so I’d recommend keeping the headset at max volume but changing your devices’ audio to what you want.
The microphone is actually, surprisingly pretty good, here’s a quick test.
It’s detachable, so if you wanted to use these as your travel-over-ear-headphones, you can, then just plug in the mic at home, that works. It’s nicely adjustable, but no wind deadening which means you need to be careful where you place it in front of your mouth.
Otherwise, the cost saving measures mean it’s a 3.5mm headset with just a basic and somewhat thick rubber cable, no sleeving or anything like that, and comes with a 4 pole to separate mic and headphone jacks if the device you are plugging it into needs that.
For gaming these are certainly fine. They don’t have any crazy features, they are just a reasonably priced, decent mic-ed headset with alright audio quality. You’ll still hear your enemies footsteps, and still be able to com with your team on Discord – especially since this is actually a Discord certified headset – and generally enjoy your time with them.
So, would I put these on my desk? While I personally use Corsair’s Void Pro Wireless, if I was in the market for a cheap headset, this would definitely be at the top of my list, and I am more than happy to recommend them for anyone looking for a cheap but usable gaming headset. Good job Corsair.
