Corsair are well known for their pretty quality peripherals, especially their keyboards and headsets, so it’s no surprise that they’ve launched a premium gaming mouse to match stuff like the Steelseries Rival 600. It’s called the Nightsword RGB, and is pretty interesting, so lets take a look.

Let’s run you through the most interesting features here. First, you’ve got 7 programmable buttons available to customise in iCUE, four on the top and three on the side, all of which are fairly well reinforced and tactile. Next, you’ve got a weights system on the bottom, comprised of 6 holes where you can fit the either hollow, lighter weights, or the heavier full weights in any of 6 positions.

You’ve also got RGB, of course. Quite a few zones actually. One on the front, one of the back, one under the back and one by the scroll wheel – you still won’t see any of them when you are using it, but it does make it quite nice to look at when your not.

And the sensor, it’s a custom PixArt PMW3391 which can do up to 18,000 DPI, but more importantly, can do 1DPI increments, so if you like to be really picky about how sensitive your mouse is, this could be for you.

Now, it’s not the lightest mouse in the world, it’s 119g without the weights, or 141 with them all, and it’s not exactly small. I have medium to large hands and I’m close to not fitting this – which is kind of a first. It’s got a nice rubber lip for your thumb to sit on, and rubber on the other side so your ring and pinkie fingers can grip the mouse well – I had no trouble lifting this at all.

It’s definitely a palm grip mouse, and, at least for my hand size, was surprisingly comfortable so if you have larger hands, this is the first mouse I’ve tried that I can genuinely recommend to you.

But of course, we have to talk about gaming. I was really impressed. It’s smooth, tracks well, it’s a little heavy but thanks to how easy it is to grip, I didn’t really have a problem with that. The buttons are laid out pretty well, the only note I have on those is that they feel like pretty cheap plastic – compared to the rest of the mouse – and so I’d like to see a nicer feel on them but otherwise all good.

Of course, this isn’t a pro gamer’s mouse. It’s too big and heavy, but as a casual gamer – one with larger hands – I think you might genuinely love this. It’s a tad pricey, at around £70 – compared to the Steelseries Rival 600’s £50 – but it’s more comfort oriented shape might be worth it for you.

Would I put this on my desk? Yeah, I think I would. While I’m still probably going to keep rocking my Razer Naga Trinity because of the 12 buttons on the side, this is a pretty decent runner up for me.
