Why you SHOULDN’T buy a Ryzen 3600X…
|People are hyped over the launch of AMDs 3rd Generation Ryzen CPUs, but there are a few naysayers who would tell you to not buy them. Since AMD just sent over their new 6 core, 12 thread 3600X, I thought I’d take a look at why you shouldn’t buy one.
First, people talk about gaming performance. Now I don’t have really any good CPUs to compare against, so I’m going to compare to the rest of the data I collected here. Lets take a look.

So as you saw, this thing owns in gaming. In some games it can keep up with even the 9900K, and I’m more than certain it’ll keep up with, or do better than, it’s more realistic competition.
Another reason might be heat and power – 6 cores must use a load right? Again, impressively, no. This CPU, under full load, only drew 90W. That’s crazy. Now just to preempt the people who think they know what they are talking about after watching one video on the topic, TDP is not the same as power usage, especially on AMD. Heat wise, thanks to the low power usage, it’s great.
But Andrew, what about productivity? Surely it’s awful at that? Once again, nope. It’s brilliant. Now it’s obviously not as fast as the 8 or 12 core options, but for premiere it’s still pretty competitive and for someone who is just snipping game stream highlights together or starting out doing 3D modelling, this is perfect.
And I think, finally, people really love to complain about single threaded performance. And since this is the budget Ryzen, it’s got to be worse, right? I don’t know how many times I can say this, no it’s amazing. Cinebench R20 gives us a single threaded score of 495, only a few points behind Intel’s king of the hill, the 9900K. Now multithreaded is slower, as you’d expect with less cores, but it isn’t that much slower, which again is incredible.
