The best speakers I’ve ever heard…
|I should probably preface this video with saying I have a bit of hearing loss, more than I should for my age anyway, and also don’t have a whole load of experience with high end audio gear, so keep that in mind as we continue.
With that said, these Edifier Luna HD speakers are, quite frankly, incredible. At £180 they aren’t the cheapest speakers on the market, but when it comes to high end audio gear, that’s kind of a drop in the ocean.
The speakers have a rather funky design, I’ve got them in white but you can pick them up in red or black if you’d prefer, and also pick them up with a subwoofer for £400, or an extra 2 of these plus a front firing speaker to make it a 5.1 surround setup for £600.
The design isn’t just for styling, you’ve got two 3” passive bass radiators in the slot in the back to help round out the sound these offer. In the front you’ve got a ¾ inch tweeter for your highs, and a 3” full range speaker for, well, everything else. They list it as having around 74 watts per speaker, which is pretty impressive.
Speaking of impressive, I mean it when I say these things are just that. When I first sat down and listened to these, I was literally blown away by how good they sound. Vocals were incredibly crisp and clear, and for the first time in a long time, it didn’t sound like the audio was just being blasted at me from two speakers, but instead sounded like it was coming from in front of me like the band was playing right there.
Now, these subwoofer-less ones do lack a bit of bass punch, but it’s not like the bass doesn’t exist. It’s noticeable after a while, but didn’t really take away too much from the listening experience, of course unless you only listen to EDM or drum and bass.
Connectivity wise, these let you use either a 3.5 mm jack or optical audio in, as well as bluetooth. You can control them with either the capacitive buttons on the side of the right speaker, or the shiny 3 button remote that’s included too. They connect to each other with what the PC community would call a mini 6 pin PCIe power connector, and a thick, shielded cable.
These are mostly designed for you to use with your PC or console, and for that, I don’t think I can recommend these any more. They are simply fantastic, and while not the cheapest things in the world, if you value good audio, these are an amazing choice. Would I put them on my desk? I think the answer is obvious, yes. I’d genuinely consider swapping my existing 2.1 setup for these, just because they are so clear and crisp.
