Esports mice are getting pretty fancy, with the latest PixArt sensors, ultra-fast switches and crazy light weights, but sometimes you see a marketing claim like “sub 1ms analogue technology” and feel utterly confused.

See, this is a USB mouse. It’s maximum polling rate – the rate at which it can update the computer – is 1000Hz – aka an update per 1ms. So, when you supposedly have switches that can actuate faster than 1ms ( internally, not just your finger pressing the switch), but can’t update that faster than 1ms, it seems a tad pointless.

Now, technically speaking you could make the argument that it’s a timing thing. If the switch can actuate in less than 1ms, you are more likely to have that switch press register on the next tick, rather than the one after, and you’d be right, but that’s such a negligible difference that is down to chance – and something that much more esteemed mouse reviewers than myself will tell you isn’t worth much.

Ok, so now we have that out the way, what makes this mouse actually pretty great? Well, the sensor is one, it’s a PixArt PMW3389, one of the latest sensors they offer, with pretty incredible tracking, an adjustable lift off distance in their pretty sparse software from 2mm as default, to 3mm.

In games this thing flys. Seriously, it’s brilliant, flick shots in CS:GO are a certainty here. Really very good. Another thing that will help that is it’s just 70g weight, which is insane. It really doesn’t feel like there is anything inside it, which is an impressive feat.

Shape wise, it’s actually a pretty flat mouse. You can claw grip it if you like, but a palm or hybrid grip is probably going to be better for you, depending on your hand size of course. It’s pretty comfortable in games, with enough room on the sides to be able to grip the mouse well and lift it off with no troubles.

You do have two side buttons, but I wouldn’t rely on them too heavily, since they aren’t all that well reinforced which lead me to actually lock the front button in while filming, and had a struggle getting it back out – so be gentle with them.

And finally you’ve got a single button on the bottom, which the sticker says is to control the polling rate, but I could only get it to change CPI profiles, which again can be changed in their software.

So, overall it’s a decent mouse. It’s “sub 1ms analogue technology” claim is a bit much, but it’s a great tracking, fast mouse that games well and is impressively light. It’s selling for £54 from OCUK, who sent the mouse over, and similar prices elsewhere in the world too. Would I put one on my desk? Personally, no, because I’m not a CS:GO pro. But would I recommend one? Yeah I don’t see why not. It’s a nice mouse, if a bit more expensive, and a gram or two heavier than the Glorious Model O, but since I haven’t tested one of those, I’m afraid I can’t tell if you if it’s any better! Maybe a review of that soon if you guys are interested?
