These are ATEN’s, the sponsor of this video, KVM switches, and they think they are the perfect tool for those of us who are working from home, and may continue to as restrictions lift. For those that don’t know, a KVM switch is a little box that you plug two different machines for both keyboard, video and mouse (hence the name), then plug in one monitor, mouse and keyboard to the output. Then it’s just a press of a button to switch between them meaning you can swap from your work PC to your gaming rig to sneak in some games on your lunch break.

Let me show you how it works. I’ve got a few of their different options here. The range starts at just £15 with their VGA one, although you’ll probably want either their HDMI, DisplayPort or USB C ones which I have here, all of which come in cheaper than their competitors like Lindy and Startech. Let’s go with HDMI as that’s probably the most universal. You plug in one set of cables to your laptop, and the other to your gaming PC, then just hook up your keyboard and mouse to the KVM, plug in your HDMI from your monitor, and that’s it. You are set up. You can use the loop to hook it to the wall or your desk if you’d like, then use the remote button to switch between your two systems, so you can be working on spreadsheets at 4:59, and flickshotting at 5:00.

This HDMI model supports HDMI 2.0, so you can do either 4K60, or my personal favourite, 1440p 144Hz. That’s what I’ve got here so lets have a little play.

Once you are done playing, you can tap the button and as if by magic you are back to your work machine. In my case that’s more likely to be video editing than spreadsheets which is what I’ve got here.

Of course, if you would rather use DisplayPort, you can. That supports up to 4K30 or 1440p60, and is covered under the same 2 year warranty as all of these options from ATEN. They are also bus powered, meaning no extra power bricks or cable clutter, just the ones you need and nothing else.

There is also this, their USB C dock switch. This lets you plug in two USB C devices like a MacBook and a Samsung smartphone. It’s compatible with Samsung DeX and Huawei Desktop mode, alongside any desktop or laptop with USB C video output including Windows, Linux and MacOS. It even supports USB PD with up to 85W of charging when you hook up a compatible power supply. It even supports up to 4K30!

So that’s a look at ATEN’s KVM switches. You can check them out at the links in the description below to pick one up for yourself, and thank you to ATEN for sponsoring the video and supporting the channel.
