Carrying on around the device, the left side I/O is comprised of a single USB3 port, an SD Card reader, HDMI port, Mini Display Port, Killer ‘DoubleShot’ Ethernet and a hole that is labeled with a picture, but doesn’t seem to be documented anywhere – I’m going to assume it is a weirdly placed microphone. The right is comprised of a Kensington Lock, DC in port, 2 USB3 ports and headphone and microphone jacks. It’s really nice to see the SD card reader, something I used regularly in filming this review, it’s also nice to see the non-combo ports for headphone and microphone since most gaming headsets use two plugs normally. I would have liked to have seen another USB port, since one will be used for a mouse, another could be a USB powered headset meaning you only have one left, which is cutting it close – but that it me scraping the bottom of the barrel for stuff to complain about. Seriously, I love this thing – and besides 4k usability, it’s amazing.
On the front you’ll find all the LED’s possible, starting from the left you have: Sleep indicator, HDD activity, Num lock, Caps Lock, Bluetooth, Wifi and charging indicator. These are quite bright and nicely placed, although having num and caps lock down there has made me phsyically lift the laptop to check if either were on sometimes. But of course, that is just me being a picky idiot.
The Dynaudio speakers that cover the width of the laptop just above the keyboard are very high quality. They reproduce sound incredibly well for laptop speakers, although they don’t go immensely loud. This isn’t a huge problem, especially since you would probably be using a headset mainly, but on the off chance you want to use them, you know they are good but quiet (relatively). I wanted to touch on the size of this thing. It measures just over 17″ diagonally edge to edge, while housing a 15.6″ screen. Of course there are large bezels around the edge bulking the size up, but even so this thing is light, and only 2cm thick, making this very easy to carry around, especially including the nice sleeve the device comes with, which zips up around the laptop and has nice soft padding to cushion any blows your travels may provide. You can see the sleeve below. Finally the Illuminated power button, it’s bright multi-colour LED shines red when the charger is plugged in, or when it gets kicked into games. It flashed blue and red when put into ‘sport’ mode (part of the software included on the next page) and seems to stay on blue most of the time..
