Asus ROG Swift (PG278Q) Review

Asus ROG Swift (PG278Q) Review.00_03_56_02.Still001So, as promised, a bit about the gaming experience (then the menu, then done). I have what seems to be an interesting perspective on this. I meant what I said in the video, if you want to get one of the best gaming monitors around right now, this is it. If you have an Nvidia GPU and have the cash to splash, god damn buy this. And here’s why: 1440p gives you that bit of extra room around the screen to, for example, in FPS games, catch your enemy earlier and kill them before they kill you – also the productivity benefit as for me 1440p is the optimal resolution right now. 144Hz, shown off in our comparison, is an amazing leap forward from 60Hz when gaming and for me is a must now that I’ve tried it. And finally, G-sync. For a lot of people this is the only reason, but for me it is a nice, and compelling addon, but not necessarily worth the asking price (at least on this monitor anyway). I think if, like most people have done, compare this to a 60Hz 1080p monitor, you’ll be blown so far away it’ll take you a week to get back to your seat to buy one, but coming from 144Hz 1080p or 60Hz 1440p monitors (thanks to recent reviews..) I’m less blown away by it all. Don’t get me wrong, it is an amazing experience and definitely the future of gaming, but for me, a 1440p 144Hz non-Gsync monitor would probably be just about as good, and likely a hundred or so pounds cheaper.

And one last thing, the menu. It works really well with the hat switch (and makes it easier to navigate and operate too!), but the settings are a little sparse for my liking compared to the AOC G2460PQU we reviewed, but that isn’t a big issue. The other two images here show off the GamePlus features, which allow you to put a crosshair on the center of your screen for games without crosshairs (cheating basically.. haha) and a timer to time games, kills or whatever you like. The turbo button is a bit strange, but basically lets you change the max refresh rate of the monitor on the fly – a nice touch I’m sure.

So yeah, over all I love it. While not a personal purchase, I certainly wouldn’t mind owning one if I could (for free..) and would recommend you get one if you are interested! It gets the Gamer Approved award as it really is the master of gaming right now, and deserves the title!
