AOC is on a serious roll with their G2 line of monitors – first the 24G2U, an amazing, well priced 1080p 144hz IPS monitor, then their CQ27G2 their great priced 1440p 144hz VA monitor, and now I have my hands on their CU34G2X, an amazingly priced 1440p 144hz ultrawide. You don’t want to miss this one. But first, if you haven’t already, consider subscribing for more videos like this one every monday wednesday and friday!

So lets start with it’s panel. Like I said, it’s a 1440p ultrawide meaning the usual 3440×1440 resolution, but that’s at a full 144hz which is incredible. It’s true 144hz too, not a frame skipped which is mighty impressive considering it wasn’t until recently that ANY 1440p ultrawide was over 100Hz, let alone this cheap.

The panel is actually really impressive, besides the clarity you get from 1440p and speed from high refresh rate, the panel itself has a black to white response time of around 8ms, which really isn’t bad considering its size, and that’s its a VA panel too. Ghosting is only slightly present in the UFO test, but wasn’t something I noticed while actually gaming, so no qualms there.

Input lag is also pretty good too, with an average of between 11 and 12ms which is spot on for a gaming monitor like this. Playing on it felt smooth and responsive, and actually more immersive than usual thanks to its ability to really fill your peripheral vision with the game. While I only really played FPS games like CSGO on it, I can imagine this would be brilliant for all kinds of genres, from RTS to racing too so big thumbs up there.

The panel has a 1500R curve to it too, which on an ultrawide actually makes a lot more sense to me – I actually really like it, it feels more immersive as if it’s surrounding me with the game rather than me staring at a wide letterbox to another world. Viewing angles are pretty decent on this too, side to side there really isn’t much brightness or colour dropoff, and the same can be said about the verticle angles too. It’s impressive.

What’s even more impressive though is the colours, using my SpyderX and Datacolor’s software, it reported well over 100% coverage of the sRGB spectrum, 84% of the Adobe RGB spectrum, and 89% of the DCI P3 spectrum, which is incredible. Not only is this a 1440p 144hz ultrawide, but it’s got good enough colour reproduction that you could easily use this as a video or photo editing display part time too. Seriously impressive.

Inputs wise, you’ve actually got a good choice with 2 HDMIs and 2 DisplayPorts, along with a 4 port USB 3 hub with the yellow port being a “charging” port that you can use to keep your phone or maybe your wireless gaming peripherals topped up. I should note, console owners who are looking for the next amazing display should likely look elsewhere. Consoles already don’t support 1440p rendering natively, as far as I’m aware anyway, and definitely don’t support ultrawides, let alone high refresh rate ones, so if that’s your sole use case, don’t get this one.

A quick look at styling, its pretty much the same as the rest of the G2 lineup, subtle red accents on the front lip, stand, and the back with an overall fairly subdued aesthetic that I’m a fan of. Speaking of the stand, it’s got a decent bit of adjustability to it, with good height and tilt motion available, and even swivel from the base although of course no portrait mode which you wouldn’t really want anyway.

So, I’ve mentioned how “Cheap” this is, but haven’t actually mentioned the price, and that’s because I saved the best for last. It’s currently on pre-order for just £450. Yeah. That’s insane. It really wasn’t long ago that even AOC’s own 1440p ultrawides were £800+, so to have a full 1440p 144hz ultrawide, AND great colours on top of that, this is really a dream come true. This was a phenomenal gaming experience, it’s versatile, and costs so little for what you get, so big thumbs up from me.
