So with that said, I’m using Battlefield V with DXR on at 1080p for testing, on the Tirailleur level in the forest, because if you are testing RTX cards, I think it’d be rude to not use.. Well… RTX.

So, how much power did they draw? Well, I’m measuring idle, average and peak power draw, so lets start with the 2060. It idled at a measly 74W and when put under gaming load, averaged around 300W with a pretty similar peak value of just over 300 – around 304W. Definitely not bad. To give you context, that would cost you around £30 a year – assuming you were gaming for an average of 2 hours per day, obviously less if you don’t game as much!

Now how does the 2070 fair? Actually not that much worse. Idle settled around 79W, with the gaming load hitting 336W average with a peak of 349. That’s not too bad either, and would cost you only £4 more than the 2060 per year.

The 2080 has to draw a load more power, right? Still, and much to my surprise, no not really. It does idle higher at around 97W but under gaming load it was averaging 352W with a peak of 372W, so still nothing monumental, and cost wise it’s only £2 more than the 2070 at £36 a year.

Now. The big boy, the 2080ti. This one, well, this one doesn’t so much sip power as much as chugs it. Idle isn’t too bad at 102W but gaming load averaged at 455W with a peak of 485W. That’s a substantial increase from the 2080. Cost wise you’d be looking at around £47 a year, a full £11 more than the 2080 and £17 more than the 2060!

What’s most interesting to me is the graph showing all the data here, as you can see the 2060 to 2070, and 2070 to 2080 numbers are a smooth increase as you’d expect, but then towering above the rest is the 2080ti. I suppose though it’s nice to know that your whole system, even with an i7 and 2080ti, isn’t drawing more that 500W from the wall. While I’d still recommend something like a 650W PSU for a 2080ti at least, it’s nice to know you’ve got plenty of headroom.
