There are a lot of options when it comes to gaming chairs, from your high end Noblechairs to your Amazon Basics budget sets, but when it comes to the happy medium of not awful quality, but not £400+, NitroConcepts offers a pretty interesting range.

I’ve checked out a number of their seats before, including the fabric version of this, the S300 – this is the EX model, and has faux leather. As my partner noted, it’s a cheaper feel than the stuff you get on Noblechairs, but it’s actually a little bit nicer to sit on as it doesn’t feel as sticky as leather type seats can be.

Assembly wise it is pretty straight forward. You take everything out the box, push the wheels into the base, then the gas cylinder and cover onto the base screw the tilt mechanism to the bottom of the seat, then screw the back to the bottom and screw in the covers. Pretty simple, only takes a few minutes.

Features wise you don’t get all that much with these, at least compared to their more premium brothers, but you do still get a fair bit of height adjust, one position locking tilt, movable backrest which while doesn’t go fully flat, has lots of positions so you can sit comfortably for you, and movable armrests, with height adjustment as well as swivel left and right, and forward and backward adjustment all done by just putting at them, rather than a button to “unlock” them.

So the most important part, is it comfortable? Coming from a Noblechairs Hero with the built in lumbar support, the included lumbar cushion isn’t quite the same, but overall I was rather pleased with this. It’s styled like a racing chair, but the side bolsters are pretty wide, meaning even if you are a larger person, you’ll still fit this chair quite well. For reference I’m 6ft with fairly wide shoulders and hips, and I’ve got plenty of room to spare.

Quality wise, as I mentioned it feels a little cheaper than the noblechairs options, but still feels rather nice, and is built with a steel frame internally – unlike some that claim to be but aren’t – so should hold up well even if you are on the heavier side too.

I can’t attest to longevity of this one, but the standard S300 and the older C80 have both fared very well so far.

I do have a couple of gripes with it though, the first and most trivial is the tilt mechanism, which literally just lets you lock it in a standard, fairly flat position, and then lets you lean to whatever you want. It’s not the end of the world, but the proper lockable version would be nice, especially at £230 .

The second is the arm rests, if you lean on them without them being fully slid forward, they will slide out from under you. The reason why most other manufacturers use a locking button is so that they won’t just slide everywhere, which can be a bit annoying to live with, but still not the end of the world.

So, is it worth £230. I’d say so. It’s comfortable, decent quality, a reasonable amount of adjustability and if you don’t want to spend more money than some people’s entire PCs on a chair, this is a nice option. I think I personally prefer the fabric one over this faux leather option, but that is just personal preference.

Would I put this in my office? Yes, I’d be quite happy to. It doesn’t quite match up to the more expensive options available, but for the price is a great shout.
