PNY RTX 2070 Super Review
|If you are after a solid RTX 2070 Super option, this PNY XLR8 version seems to be just that. It’s priced well for the market, and offers good performance and temps to boot. Let me show you around it, but first, if you haven’t already, consider subscribing for more videos every Monday, Wednesday and Friday!
Let’s start with a look around the card. It’s a triple fan design, with translucent blades making for an interesting look. I like it. As far as I’m aware though, there isn’t any RGB so the RGB haters rejoice! The side profile looks good too, with the obligatory RTX logo there. Same goes for the backplate.
So, it looks alright, what about specs? Well of course it’s an RTX 2070 Super core, but base clock is 1605, boost is 1815, and uses 6+8 pin for power. HWInfo reports it draws a little over 200W under load, but is setup to handle 300 total.
In game performance is good. Unfortunately I don’t have many other cards to test against, but from my historic data it seems to be on par or slightly faster than the Gigabyte 2070 Super I compared with the RX 5700XT a few months ago. Lets take a look at the numbers I collected with this one though.

As for temperatures, the XLR8 did a great job, sitting at between 65 and 70°c while gaming in my open sided test case, all while being remarkably quiet. I would say I didn’t notice the fan noise almost at all while testing which is always a good sign.
As for its price, it’s listed for just over £500 here in the UK which makes it a pretty middle of the road card, and I think the performance justifies that. Of course, I would still probably recommend you save over £100 and buy an RX 5700XT instead of any 2070 Super, since you get 95% of the performance for 25% less money, but if you are someone who likes NVIDIA’s RTX features, especially if you have some games in mind like the ever popular RTX Minecraft, or even a bit of extra immersion for the COD Modern Warfare campaign (which is great by the way), you might consider this instead.
As it stands, this gets a recommendation from me, if you are set on a 2070 Super. It seems to be a solid card with reasonable performance, good temps and noise, and I quite like the non-RGB aesthetic.
