Omen have pushed the boat out with this one, like I said it’s rocking an RTX 2060, a Ryzen 7 4800H, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD space, and a smooth 144Hz display, all in a thin and light chassis, and did I mention the 12.5 hours of battery life? Yeah it’s really impressive. So, inside the box we’ve got the laptop itself in its protective sleeves, the charger and some paperwork. HP also sent me over some of their peripherals I’ll be using in just a sec. But first let’s take a look at the laptop.

Starting with the display, it’s a 15.6” 1080p 144Hz panel that’s squeezed into this compact frame meaning extra thin bezels and a smooth and responsive gaming experience. It’s also a G-Sync display making for a tear-free gaming experience, which makes a massive difference to how playing games can feel. You can also make your playing experience even more responsive with NVIDIA Reflex, a tool built into supported titles like COD Warzone, Apex Legends, Valorant, Fortnite and more, which helps reduce input lag (the time between you clicking your mouse and seeing a gun fire on screen). The lower the input lag, the faster you can react to seeing enemies and the more accurate you can be at hitting those headshots.

Keeping all that power cool is OMEN’s Tempest Cooling Technology, it’s got 5 way airflow and triple side venting to ensure the parts stay cool even in the most demanding games – and the impressive part is it’s all housed in this sleek and stylish, yet absolutely tiny frame. Seriously, just look at it, it’s insane. Impressively, despite the small size, they haven’t skimped on the battery as it has up to 12.5 hours of battery life, and can charge from 0 to 50% in just 45 minutes. While we are down here I should mention OMEN have thought ahead, with an easy access panel for the SSD and RAM so if you want to upgrade later it’s at your fingertips. Good job!

Something that surprised me with this is OMEN’s focus on audio. They collaborated with Bang & Olufsen for the speakers giving an impressive and rich listening experience. You’ve also got HP’s Audio Boost and SmartAmp for louder volume listening without distortion, and DTS: X for accurate 3D sound through any headset. They’ve really covered all the bases.

Right, let’s get this setup and play some games!

COD Modern Warfare has been a favourite of mine for a while so lets jump into that first. Of course it features Ray Tracing to make the gaming experience even more realistic and immersive, and it has NVIDIA Reflex too which we are going to turn on now. The OMEN 15 with it’s RTX 2060 has more than enough power to keep a stable 144FPS to match the display, and keep a smooth and responsive experience. Especially in fast paced games like this, you want as many frames as you can to make it as easy as possible to be both fast and accurate with your shots.

I play Rainbow 6 siege a fair bit too, so lets give that a go. While that boots up I should mention the OMEN Command Center. It’s the only place you need to look to customise the laptop, whether that’s performance and fan controls, keyboard settings, network booster or see system vitals, it’s all there.

So yeah, that is a pretty comprehensive machine. It’s got plenty of power, all inside a stylish and tiny chassis, kept cool, upgradable, easy to use including a new larger track pad, great battery life, plenty of I/O and a great experience to use.
