Cyberpower RTX 4090 System Review

If you happen to be absolutely flush with cash and want your hands on a proper top-shelf system to power through any game at any resolution, this might peak your interest. This is a Ryzen 7000 based custom gaming PC from CyberpowerPC, with some impressive specs to match the exorbitant price tag. Here’s a rundown:

  • Ryzen 7900X 12 core 24 Thread
  • MSI RTX 4090 24GB
  • 32GB Corsair RGB 5600MT/s DDR5
  • 2TB Kingston Fury Gen 4×4 SSD
  • MSI X670E CARBON WIFI
  • Corsair H100i ELITE 240mm AIO
  • Corsair 5000D High Airflow case
  • Corsair RM1000e 1000W PSU

That’s one hell of a spec list, and of course comes with one hell of a price. This is somewhere around £4,250 including VAT (although that comes from their customizer page rather than a pre-spec’d built so prices may vary).

Build Quality

You’ll be happy to know that the build quality on such a high end system is top notch. The all important 12VHPWR connector was fully seated, all the cables were routed and cable tied very neatly even under the rear cable mess hiding panel – although to a degree I’d argue there were too many cable ties. I tried removing the CPU cooler for some other testing and found it almost impossible to remove the cooler thanks to so many tiny zip ties that were difficult to cut without catching any of the cables. The use of removable ‘hook and loop’ ties would be preferred there. Still, you can’t fault the quality.

As for packaging, they ship their systems in the case boxes which is fine. Some opt to package the case box inside another larger box with more accessories which generally aids in lowering the chance of shipping damage, but this one was in perfect condition. They do use the self-expanding foam bags to keep things like the GPU in place, and do provide a small bag of accessories.

Performance

As you might expect from a system like this, anything you want to do, be it gaming or productivity, is an absolute breeze. Cinebench R23 nets 28000 points on multi-threaded, or 1950 points on single threaded. The BMW scene in Blender only takes 90 seconds to render, and the Gooseberry scene is only 436 seconds. Ok that sounds like a lot but for comparison, even the 7600X takes 809 seconds!

As for gaming, at 1440p, CSGO on low settings rips through 623 FPS average, or 227.69 FPS in the 1% lows. Cyberpunk on its Ray Tracing Medium setting hits an astonishing 130 FPS average, and 87 FPS in the 1% lows. Shadow of the Tomb Raider on its Highest preset runs at 254 FPS average and 158 FPS in the 1% lows. Microsoft Flight on Ultra runs at 90 FPS average and 66 FPS in the 1% lows. And Fortnite on EPIC settings runs at 204 FPS average, and 142 FPS in the 1% lows. Not bad at all!

Thermals are a bit of a complicated thing with this collection of hardware. The 7900X is a chip that just can’t be cooled well, regardless of the cooler that’s on top of it. The IHS (the integrated heat spreader, or the shiny bit of metal on top of a CPU) is massively thick and inhibits heat transfer, meaning pretty much no matter the cooler, it’ll run at 80°c to 90°c. Personally I’d still spec a 360mm AIO for this chip, but the 240mm did fine too. As for the GPU, again that’s complicated because this 4090 draws up to 450W while in use. It’s really hard to dump 450W from something as small as a GPU die, but the MSI card generally does a good job, keeping it from throttling while in use.

Conclusions

On the whole I’d say it’s a pretty great system. It’s quiet, insanely powerful, and well built. You wouldn’t be itching for an upgrade with this for a while – and even if you wanted to, there is still plenty of upward mobility. You could swap in a 7950X for more CPU horsepower, or do a BIOS upgrade and gain support for 8th and probably 9th and 10th generation Ryzen chips when they are available. You’ll definitely be able to upgrade the GPU – the PSU can take it and the motherboard is running up to PCIe Gen 5 through the top PCIe slot making it very, very futureproof.

Obviously you can’t ignore the price tag, and if this is out of your league (like it is for me and about 99% of the world) then obviously this isn’t for you – but if you happen to be able to afford such a luxury… It’s an impressive choice for sure. It gets the gold award from me, as you’d need plenty of gold to be able to afford it!
