1660TI Comparison: STRIX vs MSI vs ZOTAC

So you are planning on buying a GTX 1660TI, but not sure which model to get? Well, I’ve got 3 here that I’m going to put through their paces, score them 1 to 3 and the model with the lowest score wins. Deal? Great.

So the first thing we need is categories to judge them on. The obvious one is performance, so the card that is the fastest in most games gets 1st there. Nice and easy. Temps are also important, so lowest temps wins there. Noise is also pretty important so the quietest, subjectively, wins there too. Styling is the most subjective, but I think should factor in too, as should price, although both of these score will change depending on you, and where and when you watch this, so at least for pricing anyway, you can use the links in the description to find out pricing on each of these local to you.

Starting with performance, let’s throw up the graphs…

Scoring wise here, the MSI card just wins out over the STRIX, but realistically you won’t notice a massive difference in performance between them. Clock speed wise  the zotac was the slowest with a maximum of 1890MHz, MSI in the middle with 1995Mhz and the Strix with 2010MHz.

Moving onto temps, this is pretty simple. The zotac card peaks at 75°c, which is plenty respectable, although was beaten out by the MSI card down at 66°c, and winning it all here is the strix with 64°c. Impressive.

Noise is a different story though, as the STRIX was by far the noisiest, with the MSI card being remarkably quiet, and the ZOTAC being somewhere in the middle.

Styling is as I mentioned the most subjective, and you might want to change the scoring to reflect your own thoughts here, but for me, the most stylish is actually the MSI Gaming X card. It’s got nice RGB accents that stand out, but aren’t too flashy, and overall just a very appealing design. The strix card is second here for me, with basically the same cooler design we’ve had for the last couple years, with 3 fans making it by far the largest here, and while it’s nice, it doesn’t grab me as “beautiful”. The zotac card is alright, but with no backplate and being absolutely tiny, it comes in a fair 3rd here.

And of course price. The STRIX commands quite an insane margin over the rest, being up over £350 at the time of filming, whereas the Gaming X is at a more reasonable £300, and the Zotac Twin Fan being the value champion of the pack, with a low £270 sticker price.

So, rounding it all up then, the ZOTAC Twin Fan finished with a score of 23, putting it in 3rd place. It’s still a brilliant card, excellent value and does a good job at what it does, so still gets a solid recommendation.

The STRIX is next, with 18 points, and really at this price point I’d really just recommend you go get an RTX 2060 and get even more performance, and the shiny new RTX features. It’s a nice card, but not so nice price.

And finally, the MSI Gaming X with just 13 points, is the clear winner, for me anyway. I’m genuinely impressed with it’s cooler especially in the noise department, comes in at a bit more than the ZOTAC, but provides reasonable performance improvements for your money, and a stylish cooler to boot. Highly recommended from me.
