Mechanical keyboard enthusiasts, I think you will absolutely love this. Everyday people, I think you will too. This is the Wooting Two, and it’s an analogue mechanical keyboard that I think is worth buying.

Now hold on just a second, what does “analogue mechanical keyboard” mean? Like a typewriter or something? Happily, no. Wooting use Flaretech switches here, which use an IR emitter, some lenses, and a receiver to do ALL the keypress registering. That means that it can track how far down the travel you are, and because – unlike Cooler Masters’ MK850 – only uses that for all signaling, you can actually adjust the actuation point on the fly.

That also means you can use their rather nice software to do some crazy stuff – the first one is map any key on the keyboard to any xbox controller input – again, unlike the MK850 which only has select keys and select inputs. You can also change the response curve if you want better control of certain inputs – say make it easier to walk slowly in CSGO, or more linear for throttle in Project Cars 2.

The second function actually blew me away, it’s called D.K.S – or dynamic key system. This lets you map up to 4 individual key presses to one key. How, you ask? Well, since it can register how far down the travel you are, it has the first key press at the minimum actuation point, 1.5mm, the second almost at the bottom of the travel at 3.6mm, then when you come back up, the third, and forth back up at 1.5mm. These aren’t exclusive to each other either, you can map, say, shift to the bottom of W, so that when you just lightly press W, you’ll walk in game, but if you go heavy, you’ll automatically start running. That is amazing.

One of the examples they give is building in Fortnite – as a half press would bring up your build menu, then a full press would build that item, saving you button presses. That’s awesome.

Ok, so it’s got some tricks, but is it actually any good as a keyboard? Well, yes. While the switches my model has – their Linear55 (think Cherry MX Red) aren’t my favourite, since it’s just an LED on the PCB, you can remove every single switch with the key puller that comes in the box – and if a switch breaks (which, since they are just a plastic box with a spring, are unlikely to) you can replace it in literally seconds.

Typing on it is pretty nice. The ability to move the actuation point to where you are comfortable is rather nice, and key feel is pretty good, even if they are the more red style switches I, personally, am not as big a fan of.

The RGB is actually pretty nice too. Bright but not overbearing, just right in my eyes.

Build quality is great, the keycaps feel fairly quality too and it even comes with a removable USB C cable and a cable routing system that ACTUALLY HOLDS THE CABLE IN FOR ONCE. I know. Crazy.

So, if you’ve seen the price of the Cooler Master MK850 with it’s only 8 “aimpad” keys, and knowing Wooting is a pretty tiny company that funded this through kickstarter, you wouldn’t be wrong to assume this is some £3/4/500 keyboard – very happily though, it’s not. It’s around £130. That, quite frankly, is amazing. It’s right around the ballpark for a quality mechanical keyboard, which this is, but has so much functionality on top of your usual keyboard.

Now, with that said, I’m not going to be swapping my Cooler Master MasterKeys Pro L out for this, I like my Cherry MX Brown switches a bit too much, but at the price this is at and the functionality it offers on top of being a generally nice mechanical keyboard, I cannot recommend you check this out enough. Would I put this on my desk? If I wasn’t so in love with my brown switches, 100% yes.
